Unveiled: New HP Digital Printing Technologies

Earlier this year, at the Hunkeler Innovationdays trade show in Lucerne, Switzerland, we got a look at some of the new HP digital printing technologies slated for upcoming release. Looking back, we can now say with authority that these new technologies from HP have firmly established two things. First, HP bringing a tremendous amount of firepower to bear on the growing digital media market, and making headway in establishing itself as the leading provider of professional-quality digital printing press products and media. Second, with the ever-increasing quality and ever-shrinking costs of digital presses, inks, and media, the lifespan of offset printing can now be measured in hours rather than days.

Among the highlights of the Hunkeler trade show were two newer HP digital printing platforms that showcased the evolution of digital printing technology. The HP Indigo W7200 Digital Press is a powerhouse, churning out max resolution, richly colored documents at lightning speed. The HP T200 Color Inkjet web press was put to the test as well, showing that HP is making a concerted effort to offer a viable way for smaller publishing firms to get a dog into the digital race.

Either way you slice it, HP printing technology has shown tremendous growth in both quality and affordability over the last few years, and the death knell of traditional offset printing is nigh. With quick, effective digital printing that provide native support for variable data and print on demand features, offset simply can’t keep up.

Even more exciting, Sappi Fine Paper Europe unveiled a new and innovative series of coated papers specially treated for use with HP digital printing technology. This mass produced, fully coated paper media allows publishers who incorporate HP printing solutions to provide direct mail and mass mail efforts that maintain the highest quality of commercial printing – a huge marketing advantage that many advertising executives are sure to note.
